Artist Interview – Krimsone
Firstly who are you and where are you from?
My name is Krimsone and i grew up in the Blue Mountains, NSW.
How do you think this affected you on your journey towards being a graffiti/mural artist?
The Blue Mountains is a very beautiful and inspiring place. The natural beauty of the place is breathtaking but also the graffiti scene growing up was amazing. The Blue Mountains has always been quite isolated and art and music has thrived there and developed its own style with out too much inspiration from external places. So the uniqueness of the area and scene was the most moving for me on a journey as an artist.
When/How did you know you wanted to be a graffiti artist?
I cant remember if there was a time I made that decision. I just always naturally created art. Growing up painting I never cared where it would take me as long as I was doing it. Im very grateful that as I progressed it has taken me to where I am today.
Your favourite or most inspirational place/spot you have painted at?
What/Who are some of the inspirations that drive you to paint?
Did this help guide you to where you are today?
Tell us a do you have any memorable moments/stories/chases you could share from a painting mission?
There are definitely too many to mention. I love where painting takes you and the people you meet.
What are your personal goals now and in the future as a professional mural artist?
Much larger walls with a more experimental direction.
Tell us a little about how you like to work. (Alone, with others, in phases, details, etc…)
Studio work I love to work alone. Its very therapeutic working in the studio with just yourself. Painting out doors I don’t mind either. Most of the time I’m working on murals with my best friend Scott Nagy so I’m very lucky in that aspect.
But Its always fun meeting new artists and writers from new places and painting with them.
What direction do you feel your art is going?
Hopefully in a more imaginative and abstract path.
What’s the biggest misconception the general public have of graffiti artists?
Probably that it’s mindless.
What are your thoughts on the whole graffiti vs street art?
If you could share a message with the next generation of graffiti artists, what would it be?
I don’t think I’m in a place to give advice but I will say sketching is very important.
There any up and coming artists that we should keep an eye out for?
Resio is killing it
Any shouts out you would like to give?
Big ups to Scott Nagy, Ghost, Kular , dcydes and hugotees.
Thank you very much for your time and we look forward to seeing more of your amazing work.
