This Is Not Art Festival – Large-Scale Mural at Newcastle Panthers

In October 2014, Blackbook Ink had the privilege of participating in the renowned This Is Not Art (TINA) festival in Newcastle, one of Australia’s most celebrated independent arts festivals. We were commissioned to create a massive 70-meter-long, 2.4-meter-high mural along the carpark at Newcastle Panthers, adding a striking visual element to the festival’s dynamic atmosphere.

Bringing the Vision to Life

Our talented graffiti artists Asone, Puke, and Sekt collaborated to design a mural that would resonate with the festival’s diverse audience. The goal was to create an artwork that was vibrant, engaging, and accessible to the general public, transforming a plain carpark into an eye-catching landmark for festival-goers and the local community.

This large-scale project was made possible through the generous sponsorship of Ironlak, who provided us with a wide range of premium spray paint colors, allowing our artists to execute their vision with precision and vibrancy. Additionally, we extend our gratitude to Simone at Street Art Walking, whose efforts in securing the mural wall and managing logistics were instrumental in the project’s seamless execution.

Impact on the Community

The finished mural became a standout feature of the festival, drawing in both art enthusiasts and passers-by alike. It transformed the carpark into a visually captivating space, adding to the cultural vibrancy of Newcastle. The mural became a talking point, sparking conversations around street art’s role in public spaces and reinforcing the power of urban art to bring communities together.
