In 2016, Third Rail Cafe approached Blackbook Ink after securing the lease for a cafe in Waverton. The client desired a tasteful yet impactful wall art installation that would complement the cozy space. To fully understand their vision, our lead artist conducted a site visit and engaged in discussions with the client. During this visit, it became evident that the tiled serving area held a distinct aesthetic appeal. Leveraging this observation, we proposed extending the tile motif onto the opposite wall and incorporating the cafe’s logo. In addition, we suggested integrating the name “Third Rail” with painted train tracks, paying homage to the cafe’s proximity to Waverton train station.
By aligning the design with the surrounding elements and the cafe’s location, the resulting mural created a cohesive and visually appealing atmosphere. The painted tiles and train tracks not only added character to the space but also sparked interest and conversation among customers. The strategic placement of the logo further enhanced brand recognition and served as a captivating backdrop for patrons to enjoy their dining experience.
By collaborating with Blackbook Ink, Third Rail Cafe gained a unique and custom-made mural that perfectly suited their space. The art installation served as a captivating focal point, enhancing the cafe’s ambiance and contributing to a memorable customer experience. The incorporation of local themes and the integration of the cafe’s identity into the design established a strong sense of place, further distinguishing Third Rail Cafe from competitors.
